About
Hey everyone! So I’m taking off again, however this time my sights are on a new region. As many of you know, I’m heading down to Mexico to do my field research for my master’s thesis but prior to that I’m making a stop in Guatemala for some Spanish language training. All told I’ll be gone for 12 weeks and incase you’re wondering, this is the break down of my trip:
Week 1-4: Quetzaltenango, Guatemala (Language Training)
Week 5-10: San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico (Field Research)
Week 11-12: Guatemalan Highlands (Vacation with Ben!)
So there you have it, the rough outline of my trip! I’ll try and update my blog as often as I can. For those of you who have followed some of my previous trips, glad to have you onboard again and if this is your first time then I hope that my writing is at least some what enjoyable for you. I’ve left up all my posts from previous trips if you ever feel like taking a look back. So I feel like this description has been a little vague on exactly what I’ll be doing and why but over the next few weeks I’ll take some more time to explain my research question and why it’s important. My hope is that by the end of my trip we’ll all have learned a little Spanish and gained a better understanding of the practices and conditions of rural farmers in San Cristobal. If you asked Ben what I’m studying, he’d say “Dirt”, but I promise that it’s more interesting then you think!!

Good luck Sarah, we will be following your travels, love Buppy.
Hi Sarah,
This sounds like one packed experience……. It is good you have kept good records or you’d never be able to relay it at all,
I can only imagine how you must have felt after your encounter with the women at the market, you would feel so vulnerable and helpless to do anything.
It sounds like you reacted and did what was best at that time. It will eventually become a funny happening in your life and you will come to terms with it all in good time.
You are one brave young lady even to be there and God will bless you for your heartfelt intentions to make this world a better place.
I can hardly imagine how desperate these people must be.
We are so rich in all things it is hard to imagine their situations.
When I was in Sri Lanka a few years ago I saw the same level of poverty and I was in awe to think people were rich if they owned a white plastic lawn chair. I visited several months after the terrible tsunami and talked to young waiters at the hotel who had lost family members to the sea.
I hope you are over your bout of nausea and vomiting. I guess it is to be expected.
You have been so busy for months now. Just enjoy the last few weeks. I bet the people are beautiful tho’.
Iloved you bit about Stephen Lewis, that is how it all starts.
I had your Dad, Bonnie and Josh over for dinner , just a treatas they have been busy with the new “baby” ans losing a bit of sleep.
We have had two days of heavy rain, much needed I might add.
I will keep you in prayer Sarah, both for the rest of your visit to Ghana and for safe travels back to Eastern Passage.
I’m sure you will be glad top get into your own bed.
Love and God Bless
Mavis
